| It is with deep regret the Wrightsville Steam Fire Engine & Hose Company No. 1 announce the passing of Active Fireman and Life Member Michael “Nuke” Newcomer. Nuke was a dedicated public servant, who embodied the spirit of the Wrightsville Fire Department. He was one of the most dedicated individuals that you could find and was tremendously loyal to the Wrightsville Fire Department. Fireman Newcomer joined the department as a Junior Fireman in August of 1984. Throughout his 41+ years of service, Nuke held the ranks of Lieutenant and Rescue Company Captain. Most recently, he served as a Trustee of the department until he resigned this month due to his health. Although he was proud of these titles, he was most proud of the titles of husband and father. Mike is survived by his wife Lorie, son Dalton, and stepson Devon, who are all Social Members of the department. As dedicated and loyal as Nuke was to the fire department, that did not come close to comparing to his dedication, loyalty, and devotion to his family. Despite his diagnosis, Nuke continued to remain active as an Operator and was always available at a moment's notice. He was frequently found staffing the fire house, sharing his love of “rescue work”, Holmatro rescue tools, and Seagrave fire apparatus. Even when he was unable to ride because of his illness, he would still offer a helping hand in any way that he could. Nuke, we thank you for your dedication and commitment to the Wrightsville Fire Department and the communities we serve. We will share service information as it comes available. |
