| This evening, the York County ATR was dispatched to assist York New Salem Fire with a Trench Rescue in New Salem Borough. Rescue 41-1 (W/4) and 2 additional technicians from Company 41 made the response. First arriving units located a subject who had fallen to the bottom of an 8’ trench and was unable to get out. It was also confirmed that soil did not collapase or have the subject burried. Due to the lack of a trench box, special operations personnel placed trench panels and struts to secure the soil from collapsing. Once the trench was secured, the subject was packaged and extricated from the trench via a rope system. Extrication was completed within 90 minutes of the first ATR asset’s (Rescue Squad 9) arrival. The subject was transported to a local trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Thank you to Columbia Borough Fire for covering our local while the Squad Company operated on this incident.
