The Squad originally was directed to stage at the entrance to the trail at Lock 2. Initial units from 39 located the patient on top of the 700 foot mountain and made the determination that the patient was going to have to be transported down the mountain via a rope system, then transported back to Lock 2 via boats. Ultimately, Boat 41 (W3 Techs), as well as other mutual aid boats were requested to the scene to take equipment and manpower to the base of the mountain. The Squad crew took Boat 41 and the equipment to the base of the mountain and began hiking up to the top of the mountain. Crews began packaging the patient and evaluating options for extrication. The decision was made to set up a low grade lowering system and take the patient down in stokes basket with attendees from York County ATR and Craley Fire Department. Rescue Squad 69’s crew (DLA Professional Firefighters Association IAFF F-221) and Squad 41’s crew established an anchor point and the lowering system. The patient was safely lowered to the base of the mountain and loaded into Lake Clarke Rescue Boat 601. The patient was transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. Fire Chief 41 assisted in a command role for the duration of the incident. Crews operated for over 5 hours before clearing the scene.
