1 announce the passing of past Fire Chief and former President Leonard "Len" Urey.

Joining the department in the spring of 1974, Chief Urey became a Wrightsville fireman at the age of 18. During his tenure, he held each operational position including Fire Chief from 1998-2008. Len also served as the President of the department.

He was a founding member of Rescue Company special service at Wrightsville. Len was instrumental in fundraising and especially enjoyed running the 50/50 feeds. Chief Urey was also a great advocate for the department's junior firefighter program as he knew they were the future of the organization. This program even boasted a membership of 14 juniors during his tenure.

Chief Urey will be greatly missed.
