By Lieutenant Eric Oberdorff
March 10, 2018

On Saturday, March 10th, members and various community figures, gathered to share their appreciation for the hard work and dedication our volunteers commit to the department and the community. The event was held at John Wright Restaurant’s River Room on Front Street in Wrightsville.
The evening started with a few words and introduction from President Richard Livelsberger. This was proceeded by an invocation by department chaplain, Phil Lehman before the meal was served. After dinner, guests were given a touching speech by guest speaker Jordan Hood, of the Prince Georges County Fire Department, MD who spoke about the importance of volunteering, and giving back to those we serve and our families.

Fire Chief Chad Livelsberger and President Richard Livelsberger presented awards with the assistance of State Representative Keith Gillespie, to those who have gone above and beyond for the department and the community.

Presented Awards:
Firefighter of the Year – Victor Velez
Member of the Year – Devon Anderson

County and State Delegates – Mel Livelsberger, and Renae Poole

The final presentation of the night was to the family of Fireman James E. Yohe who died in the line of duty on November 14, 1961. A video was shown explaining the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation's Project Roll Call/Pre-1981 section of the Walk of Honor and an interview with Fire Police Lieutenant Wilmer Oakes recounting the events of that fateful day. Following the video, a standing ovation from the crowd came when documents were presented to Fireman Yohe's sons, Glenn and Mark, noting the purchase of a brick by the Wrightsville Steam Fire Engine & Hose Company No. 1 in memory of their father to be placed in September at the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation's Walk of Honor in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

We would like to thank John Wright Restaurant for their generous assistance in making this great event happen. We’d also like to thank Suzette Cover with The Registry for Excellence, in assisting us with awards for our banquet.

A special thank you to the Maytown-East Donegal Township Fire Department for covering our calls for the event.
Thank you all for your continued support of our 100% volunteer organization!
