Members gathered Saturday evening for the Wrightsville Steam Fire Engine & Hose Company No. 1's annual membership appreciation banquet. The cordial event was held at John Wright Restaurant's River Room. Traditionally, our banquet is small way to give back and offer our volunteers time to step back from their fire department roles and enjoy the evening together. We also use this opportunity to look back at the department's accomplishments in the past year and recognize the service our volunteers provide.
The evening began with an invocation by the department chaplains and dinner. A short video presentation was made afterwards. The membership invited Jeremy Rebok, Assistant Fire Chief of Operations at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY, as our guest speaker. Chief Rebok shared the qualities and examples of a successful fire service organization and its leadership. He also shared some words that all firemen should serve by; do what is right for your community, do the right thing for your department, take care of your brothers and sisters, and train hard, train often, and educate yourself. The evening came to a close with the awards presentation.
